Here are some frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, feel free to email us.

Q: I have been interested in growing shiitake mushrooms for a long time, but I don't have any knowledge or background in the mushroom field. Is it difficult to learn to grow mushrooms?

A: If you are interested in getting into the mushroom business, we will give you step-by-step instructions that are clear and easy to follow. We will also provide a whole system that includes all the machines and accessories necessary for you to set up your own mushroom farm.

Q: How much will it cost to start a shiitake and oyster mushroom farm?

A: It depends on how many pounds of mushroom you want to produce per month and what area you live in.

Generally speaking, the minimum amount to start is around $25,000 to $35,000, which includes the machine system and steam sterilizer with some accessories.

The more mushroom you want to produce, the more funds are needed in the beginning. The maximum investment we have seen was 1.5 million Euro, using the same machine system as we do.

Q: Is there any way we can start a mushroom business with only few thousand dollars?

A: Yes. The easiest way to start a mushroom business is to grow oyster mushrooms by using cottonseed hulls. The start up cost is about $1,000 - $3,000 depending on how easily you can get the cottonseed hull. After you get profit from oyster mushrooms, you can invest more money and expand your business to shiitake, maitake, etc…

In China, we have been helping thousands of farmers use this material to grow oyster mushrooms with very little funds, so there is no problem with using the same technique in the United States and other countries.

Q: I have been growing shiitake mushrooms on logs for decades, but have lost the market dramatically in recent years. It is really hard to make profits right now. I wonder how your machine system and techniques can make money?

A: There are three facts that will help you figure out how our machine system can make a profit.

First of all, using the machines system to grow shiitake mushrooms is over 100 times more efficient than growing shiitake on logs.

Second, using our machines system, you can get shiitake mushrooms within 3-5 months, compare to years to get shiitake from logs. We have shiitake mushrooms year around, whereas the log-grown shiitake is seasonal.

Third, since we use less manpower and get shiitake mushrooms more efficiently, the cost is much lower than growing shiitake on logs or other methods. The wholesale price is about 1/3 or ¼ of the price of log-grown shiitake. We have a much bigger market.

Q: We currently grow shiitake mushrooms differently. How hard would it be for us to convert to your system?

A: If you grow shiitake on logs, it is a little harder than the growers who hand fill their mushroom bags. Since most log-growing shiitake farms do not really have good mushroom buildings, the cash flow has been exhausted, and they can not afford to buy any equipment.

If you are using sawdust substrate right now, the only thing we are concerned about is your sterilization system. Since our machine system can make a large quantity of bags in a short amount of time, you would need a big autoclave to accommodate 2000-3000 bags for each cooking time. But we can help you build your own steam sterilizer to meet the demands of the new system.

Q: We are interested in your machine system, but we do not live in the United States. Can you help us to set up a shiitake product line in our country?

A: Currently, our service area only covers North American and European countries. If you live in a country other than the covered area, please contact us for more information.

Q: We have some customers who want organic mushrooms. Can your machine system grow organic mushrooms?

A: In order to get organic mushrooms, you have to use organic materials. The mushrooms we are growing right now are all organic.

We always recommend our customers to start their mushroom business by growing organic mushrooms. When you order our machine system, we will also help you prepare and apply for Organic Certification so you can grow a variety of organic mushrooms by using our machine system.

Q: Does your machine system meet European Union (EU) standards?

A: The mechanical parts of the machine system are not regulated by EU standards. The electrical parts like the motor and the switch are regulated by EU standards. When you order the machine system, the manufacturers will not install the motor, switch and wire. You will have to hire a certified electrician in your local area to install those parts in order to meet EU standards.
